City University of Hong Kong Press was founded in 1996 as the publishing arm of the City University of Hong Kong. Overseen by the University Press Committee, the continuing mission of the Press is, by way of publishing high-quality titles, to promote scholarship, enhance knowledge transfer, and disseminate knowledge and creative works to society at large.
The Press publishes mainly three types of publication: academic works, professional books, and books of general interest and social concern. These cover a wide range of fields including business, history, cultural studies, education, law, political science, science and engineering, and social sciences, with an overall focus on China studies, Hong Kong studies, Asian studies, politics, and public policy. The Press endeavours to produce works of social impact, regional and international significance, and lasting value.

Designing the Future
In 2022, John Maeda was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Engineering from the City University of Hong Kong. It was just one of many honors he has received in a multifaceted career encompassing art, science, business, and education in prestigious locales including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design, and Silicon Valley. Dr Maeda has published several books on topics like simplicity and artificial intelligence, and he frequently shares his observations about design, technology, leadership, and more as a guest speaker and key opinion leader.
One Man Talking: Selected Essays of Shao Xunmei
Shao Xunmei, poet, essayist, publisher, and printer, played a significant role in the publication and dissemination of journals and pictorial magazines in Shanghai during the 1920s and 1930s. His poetry has been translated by several prominent scholars through the years, but remarkably few of his essays have received the same attention, and this is the first collection of his prose writings to be published in English. Shao has been described by a phalanx of scholars as the most seriously underestimated modern cultural Chinese figure. This collection of his writings joins several recent publications that aim to raise Shao’s literary and historical profile.
